Birthday parties/gifts

Published by taysyd at 12:04 am under Uncategorized Edit This

When my daughters were younger, when they either had a party or if they went to a party, a birthday gift was either given to them or they gave a gift at whatever party they were attending.

With my oldest daughter, I noticed that after she was in the seventh grade, they were no longer giving gifts to each other. They would give each other a five dollar bill, but everyone did not come with a gift. It got to a point where they just went to the party…..gifts were not even an issue unless they chose to get a gift because that person was someone special to them.

I’m finding that to be true with my youngest daughter as well, who is now in the seventh grade. She had a sleepover in August and all of her friends brought her a gift. She recently went to a couple of parties and the first one (a couple of weeks ago), I think she said that everyone brought the little girl a birthday gift. The second birthday party (last Friday) she said that she was the only person that brought the little girl a birthday gift. The girls mom took them all to Chili’s restaurant. The third birthday part (last Saturday) she and another girl were the only one who bought her a gift and she had a big birthday at a recreation center…..a lot of kids were there, but they didn’t bring gifts…..surprising! I made sure my daughter had a gift for because when she came to my daughters birthday party, she gave her $50….I thought that was a lot for a little girl to give another little girl, but my daughter told me that her mother gave her $40 to give and she decided to add another $1o. I thought that was very nice of her and like I said, I wanted to make sure that my daughter had something for her at her party!

I guess that comes with part of growing up, but my kids will continue to give their friends gifts as long as their friends give them gifts!
